Arwyn Week 13: Carmel Ocean Fun - 9/17/2015

Arwyn started grabbing onto my fingers, and with her feet braced against my pelvis, she can pull/push herself up to standing.  She is so strong!  Also, since we were out of town and without our beloved swing, we went back to trying naps out of the swing.  They were short at first, but they are slowly building up to better lengths.  She's been using a voice quite a bit to coo at us, so that's been fun as well.  And now that I've gotten myself dairy-free, we seem to be doing better at feedings and have a much happier baby.  Still a bit of spit up though.

Leia had a rough week of fun.  She bit the dust while running on the sandy parking lot and got a huge bloody scrape above her lip.  She also got a little "no see 'em" bug bite above her eye.  But she had a fabulous time playing in the ocean and sand.  It's funny how that  probably felt like her "first time," when actually she had had just as much fun a year earlier but most likely doesn't remember.  One day when we were back home, Leia was walking through the dining room, looking at something on the shelf, and talking to herself.  Josh heard her say, "I have an idea."  It was in a somewhat sinister voice that made us worry, "oh boy, what's she up to and how did a two year old get so calculating??"  Funny stuff!

We spent the first two nights of our trip to Carmel at Lucy and Bob's house in Monterey (last post), and then we headed to Joanne's house over in Carmel for the last two.  Aunt Joanne took us to  explore Point Lobos, a fun park in town, the beach for some picnics and kite flying adventures, and lots of fun arts and crafts at her house.  Between all the fun daytime adventures, and the delicious meals at night, we definitely had a blast on our adventure!  However, traveling with kids is no easy feat, and I don't think either of us are in a rush to head anywhere again for quite some time!  The drive home did go a little better then the drive back.  Leia fell asleep for a nap pretty much right away, which only lasted about an hour, and then when it got dark she fell asleep again, and she was much more mellow on the awake time in between.  Josh did convince me to let her discover that we actually have a DVD player in the car, but that actually didn't entertain her as much as he hoped it would.  But she also hasn't asked to watch it again around town, which was what I was worried about.

Beautiful old oak trees make a great spot for a swing in Lucy and Bob's yard.

This girl loves her swings!

Helping Uncle Bob put some bait in the squirrel traps!

All the girls!

Cute little foot!

Perfect little hands!

Modern day see-saw!

Here we go Arwyn, hang on!

Great slide!

Arwyn's first swing!

Sisters in tandem!

Parks and stand-ups...the two best things!

Ocean view hike at Point Lobos.

Steep steps down to Hidden Beach.

I love these two!

So excited for the waves!

Yep, water's a little cold!

Joanne and Katharine (and Arwyn) taking in the beautiful views.

It was a little chilly, but still gorgeous!

Things that make you go "hmmm."

Tough week for Leia with the scraped up lip and red, stingy eye.

Charging through the sand!

Nice spot for a picnic!

Enjoying a little wind in the face and sand on the tongue!

First dip in the ocean!  It was cold, but it didn't seem to phase her.  Then again, Hurricane Leia is her sister, so of course nothing phases her!

Don't worry Arwyn, I won't let those big waves get you!

Another little dip!

It's a Leia butterfly!

She walks surprisingly well in Daddy's shoes!

First time flying a kite...

For Josh and Leia!

Leia needs a few more years, but Josh enjoyed it way more than he thought he would!

Mmm, sand tastes good!

Such a beautiful spot!

These two really had fun together this weekend!

Testing out the DVD player...she did not like having to wear the headphones!

Hot new pants!

Arwyn is very good at Mommy/Baby Yoga...goes the whole time without eating even if she's hungry! (Sometimes Teacher Nikki has to cuddle with her, but it's a win-win for all!)

All ready for picture day at school...picked out her own "pretty dress".

She likes to smile, just not for the camera!

Little Mommy!

Good push-ups Arwyn!

Really getting that head/neck up high!

Not quite tall enough, but she loves it anyway with her booster!

Life is good when I'm standing!

Arwyn got to go to school picture day too!

So fired up to have a new dress in her favorite color turquoise!
