Arwyn Week 91: Arwyn's Communication Breakdowns - 3/16/2017

Arwyn has really picked up the pace with her verbal communication, but unfortunately we still don't understand all of it.  She has lots of stuff to say and many needs to communicate, but they aren't always getting through, and boy does it piss her off!  One day before work she had a 45 minute tantrum because I didn't give her something she wanted, and I still don't know what it was.  I carried her around, following her pointing, but it seemed to just lead us in circles with no resolution, so I just gave up and let her cry so that I wouldn't be late.  She started to calm down after a bit, but then decided she liked trantruming better, so she laid back down and started all over again!  So miserable! She did have fun running around at all the World Cup events at Squaw, and she especially liked playing with baby Sabrina, because after all, babies are her favorite thing.  She also had a lot of fun playing in the soft room at the Rygg's house, and climbing up the carpet wall.  She wanted me to be around her the whole time, but finally she figured out that the Rygg's friend Michelle could help her up the wall as well as I could, so she finally let me have a little adult time, but just a little.  We had a fun ski day with Eric and Aria, but Arwyn was a little too tired by the time we got to the upper mountain, so she kept throwing tantrums and trying to squirm off the lift every run.  She kicked her boot and ski off the chairlift 4 times!  Just when I decided I'd had enough and was going to take her in, we all decided to go have a snack up at high camp, but she kicked her boot off on that last chair and we would have had to take a whole extra run to get it rather than going right inside.  That was not an option in her current condition, so we just abandoned the boot and ski on the hillside.  Luckily Uncle Ryan showed up and rescued all the equipment for us.  And he helped us get all our tired turtles back down the Funitel so we could get home to rest.  Whew, exhausting morning!

Leia, on the other hand, had a great ski day with Aria and Eric.  She carried her own skis up the Funitel, and she skied down all by herself, making her big snowplow turns, every single run.  She was even having so much fun that she chose to be a big girl and ride up with Eric and Aria every time, rather than her Mommy.  She had a great night playing with Aria at our house too.  She shared all her dress up clothes and toys, and they were dancing and singing all over the place.  The two girls were running around and wrestling in the soft room at the Rygg's the next night too, and it was funny because they kept bumping into Evan and annoying him.  In the end, Arwyn actually teamed up with Even to tell the girls to stop bumping into him; it was so cute!  Leia loved all the events of the "World Championships" (as she kept referring to it), and even figured out how awesome the winner, Mikaela Shiffrin, was.  Leia had some very funny moments this week, like when she was telling some story to me about all the people in our family, and then she ended it with, "and I send them all my love."  She says these things that sound so mature all the time, and it just cracks me up.  She also told me, "You know, Mommy, I think these new skis really worked out well for me.  Thank you so much for getting them for me."  So profound!  One great thing that happened was that she actually went up to her room to get dressed in the morning all by herself, without insisted that I come watch and help.  She just headed upstairs and showed back up a little later fully dressed!  It was so great because I could keep doing my duties to get out of the house on time.  She was also super helpful and cooperative during many/most of Arwyn's crying sessions this week.  It's always so much easier to deal with life when only one of your kids is throwing a tantrum rather than both!

Exciting Women's World Cup GS down the Dog Leg at Squaw!

Daddy taking Leia up for some close-up racing action!

Goofy girl loves being outside!  She liked the races but mostly for the socializing and less for the skiing.

Arwyn loves to run wild around the snow, with Poppy looking on from behind.

Mikaela Shiffrin on top of the podium (both days)...she's an animal!

Fun times hanging out with Roxy and the Kennys...seems like a good name for a band, no?

Audra up late and rocking out!

Fun date night with my husband and my friends watching Rusted Root play live!

A-Team in the house!

We realized the last time we saw Rusted Root was over 20 years ago, but with my same A-Team friends Ryan and Eric (among others).

Cool light image of the Squaw World Cup logo on the snow.

Fun fireworks display too.

Usually it's so hard to get good pictures of fireworks, but this time I think they turned out great!

The results of Arwyn and Leia's super secret science experiment while Poppy was on duty!

Evan charging around the slopes with Uncle Josh and Uncle Ryan.

Day 2 of fun world cup racing action, and this family got smart and brought some chairs!

Rainbow Bright soaking up some sun!

Josh was really psyched to introduce his daughter to his world of ski racing.

Easier day today, keeping Arwyn trapped in a backpack...except when she kept tormenting my by stealing my hat and glasses!

Found our good friend Wendy today, and she helped us score our great parking spot back despite the jerk parking attendant!

So much fun to finally have the Rygg's back in Squaw, and a beautiful sunny week to boot!

Watching a little SL action with my girl Brit.

A little ballroom dancing with Princess Sofia and Princess Rapunzel!

So many hugs for this little princess besties!

And it wouldn't be a fun night if you didn't change your outfit a few times!

Arwyn likes to keep it casual.  She's not too sure what to make of all these princesses in the house!

May I have your attention please...Princess Leia would like to announce outfit change #3!

They even shared their time on center stage.

Multitasking Mommy: watching the show, filming the show, sipping the wine, and supporting/ignoring the toddler.

Leia sure knows how to host a fabulous costume party!

Skirts and tutus for everyone!

Little Sabrina was so chill and snuggly, a total "Mini Me" of Brittany.

Evan found Uncle Josh's video games!

Baby Whisperer Michelle and her little friend Sabrina.

Chef Matt looking on as Chef Josh slices up the delicious smoked meats.

Fun dinner party with the whole gang!

Fairy wings, princess crowns, and purses full of coins...looks like a dream come two for these little girls!

The whole funitel was cracking up as this little 3 year old had a very adult phone conversation with her mother about the location of a missing remote: "Ok Mom, well I'll be home a little later and I can help you look then." Too funny, especially with the glasses.

Getting all the way to the upper mountain is quite a long process...these two are not the most patient people in the world...

Miss Leia carrying her own skis...so happy she was able to be independent because between Arwyn, Arwyn's skis, and my skis, I really didn't have enough hands to begin with!

Cracking each other up!

Definitely best friends!

Definitely a really fun crew to ski with on this chair!

Couldn't miss this cute little rainbow speeding by you!

Leia did such a great job making nice big turns across the hill all by herself!

Eric and the girls!

Uncle Ryan to the rescue with Arwyn's dropped ski and boot!

Eric never thought there'd be a day when it was cool to clip his gloves to his pants while he skied...now we know why parents aren't cool...it's all about being practical!

4 hottest skiers on the mountain right here!

Following Leia was really great for Aria because she just had to figure out on her own how to turn those skis if she wanted to do what Leia was doing!

Soft room antics!

With the next generation of A Teamers getting to a fun playing age, the Rygg Soft Room is back in full effect...Leia and Arwyn are learning about fun times at the Bootery!

This was at the U14 Regionals at Alpine, moments before the moon rolled down the SuperG course, taking out 2 coaches, 6 course workers, and the entire B net on the skiers' right... the start time had to be delayed by 15 minutes...

It's been a stormy winter, but Arwyn and Leia persevered, and now they are enjoying some beautiful spring ski days!
