Beautiful Banzai Weekend 3/6/12

It was a big weekend at Squaw, literally and figuratively. We finally got a dump of snow, 4 feet or so, so the powder skiing was going off! So many people showed up to get some pow for themselves that the parking lot was over flowing down the street and the lift lines very long. Then the sun came out for the weekend, and it was totally gorgeous for the Ralves Bonzai Tour right here at Squaw. The Bonzai is a combination of Big Mountain Skiing and Skier Cross. Basically they set a Super G course down KT-22 through all the bumps and moguls and terrain changes, and 4 people race down it at once trying to get down first without crashing. My brother John entered the race and totally kicked some ass! He was first place in the time trials day1, and held the lead in his heats all day on day 2. Unfortunately, his ski prereleased in the finals and he crashed, but still ended up 4th! Yay Johnny Danger!!

The huge powder day lines on KT.

I was super pissed that I actually had to HIKE half way up the hill here to get to the back of the singles line...really, hike UP to wait in line!?

The snow was soft, the sun was out, and the skiing was too good to take a lunch break...Markus charging down the hill with a brat and a beer, giving us a whole new meaning to the term "eat 'n run"!

Looking up KT at the upper section of the Banzai course...I ran the whole thing at the end, totally gnarly and bumpy and insane!!

Troy, Stacia, and Katharine cheering on Johnny Danger...talk about a knuckle-biter of an event, but great for spectating!
