We went to my friend Jen's baby shower this week, and Leia had a blast! I had gotten her excited with the promise of a party, but when we arrived she got really shy and intimidated by all the people and other kids. However, the other kids were really nice (2 and 4 years old), and the lure of the huge trampoline and bouncy house were too much to resist, and the ice was broken in no time! She spent the rest of the party giggling and bouncing with her new friends. It was the cutest thing to see when she asked the 4 year old to hold her hand while jumping.
Our friend Jen come down from Oregon for a visit, and Leia adored her. It helped that Jen was happy sit for hours and look through pictures of her son Jackson, which Leia thought was the best! She also brought Leia a new bag that she could custom decorate, and was very good at reading books. We all went to the lake for our first family kayak adventure. Leia thought it was great, at least until the moment that she didn't, which was right when we decided to turn around..."I'm done!" It was quite a challenge to keep her from jumping ship while we made our way back.
Leia has been really Mommy needy recently, due to her fears of the impending baby. It has made her a little fussy and clingy, but all of a sudden this week she totally changed. She got really lovey and snuggly, in a good way, at reading time, and she started singing all the songs with me at song time. The other funny thing about song time is that I always sing softly since it's a wind-down before bed, and that's ok for all the songs until she starts requesting "Happy Know It." I start off soft, but right away she says "loud Mommy, loud!" And there's nothing I can do but belt it out loud! And because of all her clinginess and not wanting us to leave her at night, I implemented a count to 10 routine for our huggies and squeezies and rubbies time so she would be clear about when that time would end. It worked pretty well, and it's become so much a part of our routine that she now requests "count to 10" and likes to count along with me. It's pretty cute.
Despite her Mommy clinginess, Leia is also really excited about her baby sister in Mommy's belly, thanks in part to all the presents the baby has already given her, as well as her natural love of all things baby. It's so funny because she loves to lift up my shirt, kiss and rub my belly, and yell "Hi baby!" And the way she says it sounds exactly like the way Josh says it, which is weird because she really hasn't heard him do that!
Finally, Leia had her first visit to the dentist. It was a special pediatric dentist office, so they had all sorts of tricks to keep kids happy. But it wasn't the TV or the books or the prizes that won Leia over, rather the "special bag" (aka, a mini paper bag with handles) that they gave her with her new tooth brush and tooth paste. Our little bag lady was pretty much won over for life thanks to her "special bag"! The only bad part about the whole event was that she actually wanted to brush her teeth for the first time ever that night, but she wasn't allowed to because of the special fluoride glue that had painted on her teeth...huge trauma which was so frustrating for mom and dad!

Leia has never even looked twice at this possible route up her climbing structure. Today she randomly went right to it with no hesitation.
Little show off...first time ever climbed right up with no help, just her Daddy spotter!
First time in a bouncy house...clearly it was love at first sight!
38 weeks pregnant trying to keep up with these crazy little jumping hounds!
It was a little bit different jumping on the big tramp with 2-3 other jumpers compared to her small jumper at home...she figured it out!
Holding hands and jumping with her new friend Scarlet!
Little rehydration break for the jump gang!
Running laps around the perimeter and crashing to the ground is also fun in a bouncy house!
Jen and Leia...Jackson stalkers!
Beautiful day for a little kayak on Tahoe!
The whole family got to go, which was fun since the new baby won't be able to go again for awhile!
38 weeks pregnant and playing my last game of golf for the summer...was actually significantly harder and more uncomfortable than last week, but I pulled it together!
2 pars and 5 feet away from a hole in one at a really uncomfortable 38 weeks pregnant...I'll take it!
Josh's new grill...put it all together by himself like a big boy...leave it to his good buddy Danny to point out that he put the doors on backwards!
New rotisserie in action...turned out so delicious!

It’s good to know that Leah has taken to all of these really well. And it seems that the dentist made a great first impression, so the dental service has done you a lot of favor. That said, who would’ve thought that the frustration would come from not being able to brush her teeth? Haha! Good day!
