Arwyn Week 64: Daddy Taxi - 9/8/2016

Arwyn is always waving at people these days.  Whether she knows them or not, and whether they notice her or not, if she sees someone, she likes to wave.  She's also stepped up her babbling to a whole new level, and both Josh and I have started to hear the same real phrases in some of the stuff she says, which is totally crazy.  For example, the other day we were all hanging out in our bed, and Arwyn pointed to the door and babbled what sounded exactly like "That's the way up here."  I responded, "Yes, that is the way up here.  It's also the way down."  Josh laughed and said that was exactly what he heard too.  I guess after 3 years of deciphering Leia's words, we are both really good at it now!  She is loving the stairs; she walked/scooted facing forwards all the way down our big flight of stairs several times in a row.  She loves turkey, which is good since she is turning out to be a rather picky eater.  But the other Daddy Day, she gobbled up so much turkey, and kept pointing to the kitchen saying "mah mah!" (aka. more more!), and walking to the kitchen yelling "mah" until Josh finally got up off the couch to get her more!  I think I said it before, but I'll say it again, she is loving her Daddy.  The second he walks into the room, the lights up, yells "hi da" to him, and runs over, insisting he pick her up for hugs and kisses.  Then she refuses to be put down and expects him to walk her all around.  We call it the Daddy Taxi.  It's very flattering, until you want to actually do something else that is!

Leia is the tantrum queen this week, again.  She's asking for things and expecting instant gratification, refusing to wait even 5 minutes when we actually say yes.  It's becoming quite unbearable and making us very grumpy!  We've been trying really hard to get her to ride a bike (which she pretty much hasn't done since we took away her 3 wheeled strider bike), but she just can't seem to push hard enough on the pedal bikes with training wheels when there is any sort of mild incline, and as soon as she gets on her 2-wheeled strider bike, she realizes that she has to make it balance herself and she tweaks and lets it all over.  It's so aggravating because we know she's a really good athlete, she has great balance and coordination, and when she's on the back of the tandem bike with Josh, her she's standing, balancing, and swinging all over the place.  It's just a mental block that's holding her back, and like everything in her past, it's not going to happen until she chooses to make it happen, regardless of her actual skill or readiness.  The coach in Josh is getting especially frustrated because she refuses to let us teach her anything sport-wise.  Art, on the other hand, she's always asking for us to show her.  So weird.  She even spent a good block of time doing art by herself the other day while I did dishes, which was amazing, since she usually insists on having my complete attention.  She likes to do a lot of "writing" in her pictures now.  The stuff she writes looks like some weird hieroglyphics, but definitely resembles handwriting, so it is very cool to see her do it.  The other day she translated some writing for me.  Apparently it said the following: "I love you very very much Mommy!"  Too cute; I'll definitely have to save that one with the translation written next to it!  We got her to eat salmon the other day!  It was my favorite brown-sugar coated salmon recipe, so I showed her how it was made, let her taste the sugar ahead of time, and called it "sugar-fish."  Salmon is salmon, and all the health benefits are still there despite the sugar, so I considered it a huge victory!  She also played really well with her friend Mackenzie at the pond for almost 2 hours one day with no squabbles and very little parental involvement, so that was another huge victory.    She and Arwyn have more and more moments of playing well together, but so often it just ends poorly because Leia is so intense and in your face, and Arwyn gets overwhelmed and wants her space.  But they did have a good little session the other day, laughing like 2 little evil mad scientists as they knowingly hid in the corner and broke the rules (Leia feeding more and more watermelon to Arwyn after Josh asked her to stop.)  He said it was pretty funny.

Having a little chill time in her house, watching the world go by.

Ok, time to go.

Fun little bike adventure to the Village (although, thanks to Grandpa, we can't ever set foot in the village without Leia insisting on getting her ice cream)!

Even the Googie Monster's irresistible charms couldn't get Leia up from nap today, so the Daddy Monster took charge!

Arwyn rocks so aggressively on Cody the Moose it's a bit scary!

Mostly pissed to be in the cold water, I caught the one happy moment on camera!

Sisters bonding over a picnic lunch.

Leia smiles here...

Arwyn smiles here...they never smile in the same picture!

The only toy we ever lost was the doll that fits these dresses.  Fortunately our creative Daddy created "Stickerella" and "Crayonerlla," which are now Leia's favorite doll figures!

Leia's first pictures of flowers!!  The first one actually looks like a flower, with the green stem, yellow center and pink petals, then she just went straight pink for all the rest.

Love watching this sleeping beauty!

She's got a pen and is on a mission!

The warm water hot tub is definitely Arwyn's happy place!

Daddy smashing Leia is still the funniest thing ever!

Can you tell Arwyn gets a little frustrated with all her sister's crazy antics?

Never a dull moment with these three loves!

Happy swimmer.
