Arwyn Week 58: From Walking to Running - 7/28/2016

Arwyn only just started walking, and in less than a week, she's already running.  Her balance on her feet is so good, so she's just flying.  Hands empty or hands full of awkward objects, it doesn't matter, she's fast and coordinated.  So funny to watch her walk though; like all babies she has her chest jutted out like a little Napoleon, arms waiving wildly back and forth.  She is just the cutest little thing!  I had her laughing so hard the other day.  I took off her leather shoes, and her feet were a little sweaty after a long day at school, so I put my nose up to them and and yelled "ohhh, stinky feet!" and pulled my head away like I was grossed out.  She thought that was the funniest thing, so I did it over and over and she just wouldn't stop laughing.  Arwyn is also talking so much these days.  She was up on the deck watching Josh build the new slide, and she was just talking up a storm to him, while also waiving and saying "Hi Dad" to get his attention.  She's also turned into a little art critic.  We walk by some the paintings, photographs, and portraits in our house, and she makes me stop to talk about them for awhile.  She especially likes the portrait of "Great Aunt Em" in the stairwell.  She goes on and on talking about it and pointing out different features, but I have no idea what she's saying.  Clearly it's brilliant stuff though!  With all the walking and running, Arwyn's back into a little sleep regression again this week.  She keeps refusing naps, and then gets herself into these horrible meltdown states.  She won't drink milk, and doesn't want to be held, but then you put her down and she freaks out and wants to be picked up.  I'm pretty sure that neither of us has any idea what she wants.  Talking about the portrait of Aunt Em calmed her down, but as soon as I tried to move away, she just tweaked all over again!

Leia had a pretty amazing week this week.  She had her very first time drawing a person!  Up until now, the only parts of her art that actually resembled a physical object were her circles.  Then one night when she was supposed to be going to sleep, she got very concerned that she didn't know how to draw a man.  She made Josh show her how before she would sleep.  The next day, she asked me to show her how.  I drew a stick figure, and the next thing I know, she's modeling my stick figure and drawing great looking "men" left and right!  Pretty cool.  She's also started being able to color in the lines.  She used to just scribble all over the pictures, but now she colors inside the lines only.  So fun to see developmental milestones like these.  She's also been really good with her letters this week.  She keeps grabbing letter magnets off the fridge and saying names that start with them.  Realistically she's had this ability for awhile now, but I think I'm seeing her expand to more letters besides the J, K, L, and A, which she is very good at.  Poppy finally got her to pedal the bike with training wheels all by herself.  She has a hard time getting the pedal in full rotation because she doesn't realize how much force she really needs to exert on it, but she finally tried again and succeeded, going all the way to the end of the culdisac.  They had family picnic day at school this week, and I was actually able to sneak over for a little to be with her and Arwyn.  Leia was so excited that I actually came, and she spent the entire time telling everyone that her Mommy came, as well as pointing out and introducing me to all her friends.  It was really cute.  Leia also made a perfect new friend.  Kira, our friend Danielle's grand daughter came to play with us, and the two were a great match as playmates.  Kira was outgoing enough that she was fun to play with, but shy enough that she was willing to do everything that Leia wanted to do.  Leia liked her so much that she wanted to share all her toys with her without a fuss, even her clothes!  That never happens!

Yummy crab cakes and veggie box salad out on the deck tonight.

Leia joined us for dinner tonight and loved her crab cake!  But after this night we took a break from family dinners for a little...

Leia and Kira playing in the hot tub.

Leia finally found someone who would actually get inside her "sleeping bag" with her during her favorite game: tea party and naps.

In Arwyn's humble opinion, the bouncy bike was not a great substitute for the bouncy trampoline.

Seared steak tartar with veggie box caprice salad...we are living the good life these days!

Arwyn's first slip n' slide!

Only day 3 of walking and Arwyn, clearly a coordinated little kid, tests her skills out on the slippery surface of the slip n' slide, and totally kills it!

Emmett, Leia, and Arwyn all had a blast playing in the water on this hot day.

The spread eagle stance for great balance in tough conditions!

Leia's first successful pedal down the street!

Family Picnic Day at school with my two favorite girls!

Even Leia can't resist those soft kissable cheeks!

Just a few days after Arwyn started walking, she moved right on to running...clearly the kid's got balance and agility!

Check out these matching cool cats!

Happy baby with her doting older sister.

Aw, nice kisses.  I love it when Leia is so sweet to her baby.

Picnic with Echo.

These two are hard at work, letting their creative juices flow.

Leia's multimedia artistic creation: started by drawing all the characters from Jake and the Neverland Pirates, then used glitter glue to add all her favorite "treasures."  This was 100% her ideas.

Arwyn's first drawing all by herself!

Leia learning to color inside the lines!

Some of Leia's new "men" (bottom right).

More practice with drawing people and coloring in the lines.

Learning about fire fighters and making beautiful art.

Learning about police officers.

The arms come out of the head, but this man does have hair.

These men look like they got some clothes and hair.  Love how she practices in her little note book from Aunt Jen.
